December 8, 2011 - Business Review West Michigan

On Thursday, Dec. 15, "Invest Locally, Invest Profitably: The Key to Successful Investing in West Michigan" will be held at Eberhard Center on GVSU’s Pew Campus in downtown Grand Rapids. It will feature experts from across the investing spectrum addressing real estate syndication, angel investing, early stage venture investing, and later stage private equity investing. The goal is to create business and job growth in West Michigan by increasing the number of investors who can provide the capital businesses need to grow. According to John Kerschen, managing partner at The Charter Group in Grand Rapids and Michigan Accelerator Fund I, West Michigan has an estimated 500 to 1,000 people with the ability to invest in companies. “We need to cultivate that untapped resource that’s in our community. It just takes a little bit of an effort to do,” Kerschen said.
