Board Member

Rich Noreen specializes in tax and business advisory services with an emphasis on closely-held businesses, high-net-worth families, private equity and family offices. He was a past leader of the BDO USA, LLP National Pass-Through Specialist Group and led the West Michigan Private client services providing tax and business consulting services.

He works with a wide spectrum of clients, the majority of which are families that have operating companies for whom he provides consulting on tax and business-related issues including issues specific to mergers and acquisitions. Previously, Rich had an active practice working with Private Equity Groups with respect to acquisitions and divestitures as well as fund issues, including providing consulting and compliance services to portfolio companies in industries including manufacturing, distribution, government contractors and service organizations.

In addition to providing consulting services with respect to a family’s businesses, Rich offers experience in charitable, gift, estate and generation-skipping tax planning. He has significant experience in structuring joint ventures and other business combinations both domestically and internationally. This planning takes into account U.S. and foreign income tax issues, as well as wealth transfer aspects.

Rich has worked extensively with charities including the tax aspects of formation and operations of public and private charities, as well as general business tax issues. He has advised donors on complicated charitable gifting strategies As a long-standing Board member of the Grand Rapids Public Museum, he played a vital role in moving the operations of the museum from under the City of Grand Rapids into a newly formed Foundation. He is also on the Board of the Literacy Center of West Michigan. He holds a MBA from Grand Valley State University and BS from Ferris State University.
